Kuck Ranch was established in 1957 with the marriage of Leroy and Loretta Kuck, beginning with just five commercial cows. Through hard work and dedication, the operation grew to over 1,100 head by 1983. A key part of that growth was marketing cattle through the local sale barn, Lexington Livestock Market in Lexington, Nebraska, a relationship that remains important to the ranch today. Like many agricultural operations, the ranch has seen periods of growth, dispersal, and rebuilding over the years.
Today, Kuck Ranch is operated by Abe Kuck, who represents the third generation of the family operation. Abe grew up on the ranch as the grandson of Leroy and Loretta. Although he worked on it growing up, he stepped into a leadership role shortly after high school, building up to full responsibility for the day-to-day management and long-term direction of both the farm and cattle operation. Under his leadership, the ranch transitioned from a commercial cow herd to a registered Angus program.
That transition was built on the purchase of registered Angus females from the former Stevenson Basin Angus Ranch of Hobson, Montana. The purchase agreement included the bull calves to be marketed by and prepared for sale at the annual Basin Angus Ranch Production Sale. When the Basin herd dispersed in 2010, Kuck Ranch returned to its roots by marketing bulls through Lexington Livestock Market, where the ranch continues to hold its annual production sale.
Today, the ranch is supported by a small, dedicated team, including full-time and seasonal hired help, along with family members who lend a hand when needed. This team approach allows Kuck Ranch to maintain a hands-on, low-stress cattle handling philosophy while staying busy year-round with both cattle and row-crop production.
Our upcoming sale on February 10, 2026 marks our 23rd annual offering of registered Angus yearling bulls and heifers. We remain committed to continuous improvement, sound cattle, and building a program our customers can rely on for years to come.
