The Kuck Ranch began in 1957 with the marriage of Leroy and Loretta Kuck. They started with only five commercial cows and grew their herd to 1,100 by 1983. One key to their success was the marketing and selling of their cattle through a local sale barn - Lexington Livestock Market of Lexington, NE. As with any business or commodity there have been cycles and changes to the cow herd resulting in some years of dispersal and other years of rebuilding.
Kuck Ranch today consists of a small team of family members that help. Currently, Abe Kuck handles the farm and ranch operation and manages the day to day running of it. He is the grandson of Leroy and Loretta Kuck who originally started it. Abe's dad, Kallen helps with both the farm and cattle side. Thane Motis (Abe's brother-in-law) joined the crew. Thane came from a swine background, but quickly fit right in with the cattle side of things. This small list doesn't include the countless other family members that are always there to help when we need an extra hand! We appreciate them all and their actions never go unnoticed.
When Abe intially came into the operation in 2000 the cow herd took a change of direction by becoming a registered herd. This change from a commercial herd to a registered herd occurred via three drafts of 80 bred registered Angus females from the former Stevenson Basin Angus Ranch of Hobson, Montana. The purchase agreement included the bull calves to be marketed by and prepared for sale at the Annual Basin Angus Ranch Production Sale. With the dispersal of the Basin Angus cow herd in 2010, we decided to take the opportunity to return to Lexington Livestock Market (Lexington, NE) to sell our bulls.
Our upcoming sale on February 13th, 2024 marks our 21st annual offering of registered Angus yearling bulls and heifers. We look forward to growing each year and making our herd the best we possibly can.
